Introducing our New River Valley Outdoor Activity Centre

Over the decades, we’ve seen thousands of Albertans enjoy our facilities and we’re ready to carve out the next piece of our history, to support the next generation of community builders, athletes, and Olympians who will visit our hill.

We have envisioned a state-of-the-art, sustainably designed Outdoor Activity Centre that will allow us to better serve the community for decades to come.  It will mean more folks enjoying our city’s backyard, more capacity to support our athletes, and a new hub for community building.

Until our new facility is finished, we have new modular buildings at the hill that offer Guest Services, Equipment Rentals, Day Lodge/Warm Up Space and Apres Ski! These buildings will support our operations year-round until our new permanent home is completed.

Our new facility will enable ESC’s community partners, including the Edmonton Folk Music Festival, the Indigenous Sport Council (Alberta), Action For Healthy Communities and Girls in Sport Alberta to offer year-round outdoor sport and culture
programming. The new facility will accommodate a range of participants, from those currently facing barriers to
Olympic-level athletes.

Our new facility will:

Employ over 110 people, aged 16-30 in our community

Deliver more than 2,000 recreation
and instructional opportunities free
of charge

Generate economic opportunity for local and neighbouring businesses

We’re proud to be able to limit the environmental impact of the project, thanks to building the new infrastructure on the existing facility footprint. What’s more, our unique location – connected by the trail system of Canada’s largest urban park network and Edmonton's Valley Line LRT — will provide ready access to community members.

Your input is important to us.

Funding Partners

We are grateful to be the recipients of $6.6 million from the Government of Canada's Green and Inclusive Community Buildings Program and a further $4.8 million from the City of Edmonton toward the construction of the new River Valley Outdoor Activity Centre, a year-round, net-zero carbon building.
